TOLLS AND PAYMENTS

A toll is the amount paid by the user for using the road infrastructure.
The revenue from tolls is used to recover investments already made or planned, to ensure a return on those investments, and to support expenses related to the modernization, innovation, management, and maintenance of the network.

How the toll amount is calculated

The toll amount is calculated by multiplying the number of kilometers traveled by the unit rate per kilometer, which varies depending on the type of vehicle, classified according to the “Axles-Height” system (5 classes).

Category Type of vehicle Characteristics
A

Motorbikes.

2-axle vehicles with a height of less than/equal to 1.30 m in line with the first axle.

LIGHT

B

2-axle vehicles with a height of more than 1.30 m in line with the first axle.

HEAVY

The unit toll rate per kilometer applicable from 01/01/2025 is as follows:

Tariffe unitarie per km pedaggio

The final toll amount is also influenced by:

  • The characteristics of the motorway sections traveled (flatland or mountainous).

  • An additional charge allocated to Anas S.p.A., as established by Laws 102/2009 and 122/2010 (€0.006/km for classes A-B and €0.018/km for classes 3-4-5). This amount, set by the granting authority, is entirely transferred to Anas and is not subject to annual toll adjustments.

  • A 22% VAT is applied to the total amount, along with a rounding to the nearest 10 euro cents. This rounding is automatic and non-discretionary, according to the procedures established by Interministerial Decree No. 10440/28/133 of November 12, 2001, issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Toll rates are established in accordance with the law and updated annually based on the pricing formula defined in the concession agreement between the Concessionaire and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Annual Increases

The annual increase in the unit toll rate is calculated based on a mathematical formula, outlined in CIPE Resolution No. 39/2007 and incorporated into the Single Agreement signed in 2007. This formula includes various factors such as the annual inflation rate, investments made, and parameters for safety and service quality. Pending the definition of the reference PEF (Economic and Financial Plan), the tariff formulation currently does not refer to the calculation methods defined by the Transport Regulatory Authority.

The update is formalized through an interministerial decree, signed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and the Minister of Economy, after receiving the opinion of the same Authority.

Historical series: 2020: 0%, 2021: 0%, 2022: 0%, 2023: 0%, 2024: 2.3%.

The toll rates in effect from January 1, 2025, have not increased compared to those of 2024.

Toll payment systems

The Electronic Toll service is a telematic payment system that allows travelers to pay tolls thanks to a dedicated device that, from inside their cars, dialogues directly with the equipment placed at highway entrance and exit gates.

In addition to optimizing flows by avoiding queues and saving time at the toll booth, it has several advantages in terms of environmental benefits.

To date, the accredited electronic toll service providers in Italy are:

- Telepass

- UnipolMove;

- Axxes;

- Dkv Box Italia;

- Tolltickets.

At the authorized lanes, it is possible to conveniently make payments in cash.

FAST PAY is the automatic deferred payment system for freeway tolls, created in collaboration with SSB (Società per i Servizi Bancari S.p.A.) and based on the use of normal magnetic stripe bank debit cards (Bancomat type) appropriately enabled by the issuing banks.

If you are a Bancomat card holder, check with your bank that the card is enabled for Fast Pay and you will be able to pay the toll directly with it without any extra charge.

Fast Pay can be used at all self-service doors and cards on the national highway network and at doors marked with the Fast Pay logo.

It is used by inserting the ticket collected at the entry station first and then the badge (with the magnetic stripe in the lower right corner) into the special equipment at the self-service automatic doors without having to enter the personal identification code (PIN).

The spending/toll limit is Euro 61.97 per single trip.

The amount of tolls validated with the ATM card in the Fast Pay doors will be debited from your bank account once a month, with weighted average currency and without any additional fees.

Thanks to an agreement with Bank Americard (Deutsche Bank S.p.A.), highway tolls can also be paid without any surcharge with CREDIT CARDS belonging to the Visa, Eurocard/Mastercard and American Express circuits.

Cards belonging to the Diners, Maestro and Carta Aura circuits are also accepted.

WHERE TO USE THEM

Credit cards can be used for deferred toll payment at all Viacard self-service gates marked with credit card symbols and at all manual gates.

The CURRENT ACCOUNT VIACARD is a magnetic toll payment card linked to one's bank account, with no expiration date or spending limit. The Viacard card allows you to join the telepass service. It is a card dedicated especially to companies and economic operators.

Pay online

If you can't pay the toll using one of the payment methods available, then the motorway management company will issue a missing payment statement, formalising the fact that the toll hasn’t been duly collected.

The customer must pay the amount due as soon as possible.

If the toll is paid within 15 days from the missing payment statement being issued, then the customer will not be charged any additional fee.

Otherwise, if the toll is not paid within 15 days from the missing payment statement being issued, then Euro 2.58 will be charged for collection costs.

The missing payment can be settled at one of our tollbooths or Service Centres, or at a post office (only in Italy), by paying the money into post office account no. 1008204941 held by AUTOSTRADA BRESCIA VERONA VICENZA PADOVA
S.p.A. (registered office), indicating the vehicle number plate and the missing payment reference number in the description on the paying-in slip. Please be aware that missing payments can only be settled at the offices of the Brescia-Padova motorway if they refer to an exit barrier on this stretch of motorway.

It is also possible to pay via bank transfer to the following account:

BANCO BPM S.p.A.

IBAN: IT92 L 05034 11710 000000025252 BIC SWIFT: BAPPIT21010

If the customer still hasn't received a payment reminder from the  Legal Credit Management Service, they can contact the Customer Service department to swiftly settle the dispute.

As provided for by the Italian Highway Code, please be reminded that if a customer does not have a ticket, they can prove where they actually came from by providing appropriate written proof, in place of the ticket that may be found afterwards (toll receipt from the previous journey; a declaration from their company stating their presence at work; invoices; waybills; sales receipts; receipts from hotels, restaurants, etc.), or a declaration signed by a third party, attaching a photocopy of the identity document of the person making the declaration.

If the customer does not pay the amount due, a debt collection procedure is activated, which involves a payment reminder, a subsequent invitation to pay, an injunction and then distraint.

Ultimately, the customer will be reported for fraudulent insolvency.
