Safety, traffic assistance, monitoring of the correct use of the motorway and driving manner, are all ensured by the presence of the Traffic Police who carry out prevention and control of traffic offences, inspection of road accidents, the arrangement and execution of traffic regulation as well as acting as escorts to ensure a safe traffic flow.
The Company has stipulated a specific convention with the Ministry of the Interior assigning certain units of the Traffic Police to carry out duties stated in the Highway Code.
An efficient and rapid medical aid service makes a significant contribution to the safety of customers and such availability is vital in order to complete the array of assistance services.
The Medical Assistance Bodies are alerted by the Operative Centre in those cases in which emergency medical aid staff are needed. On our motorway, several different Bodies are involved, each with its own assigned area of competence.
In particularly serious cases, an emergency helicopter service is also available.
During the summer holiday period, in accordance with the competent authorities, the Company intensifies its standard services by stationing ambulances at the main toll stations.
The Fire service Corps guarantees the safety and well-being of citizens. The operator at the Operative Centre calls them whenever there are technical problems which compromise or may compromise the well-being of the users or workers on the Motorway.
The breakdown service is available to all vehicles which have broken down or which have been involved in an accident. Mechanical Assistance is guaranteed continuously by the availability of two firms which have entered into a special agreement according to which they must guarantee coverage of the relative territories 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. These firms are notified by the Operative Centre following a request from an SOS point on the motorway or by other means. The Company ensures the service is provided as defined in the agreement and in particular, that the maximum intervention times are respected.
For intervention which falls under the definition of "essential public service", that is, regarding "a vehicle which is stationary on the carriageway, access or exit ramps of the emergency lane due to breakdown or accident and which has a width measuring under 3 m.", the intervention times of the two Organizations indicated by the Company are:
- for breakdown service to be carried out with a "small breakdown vehicle": 20 minutes
- for breakdown service to be carried out with a "large breakdown vehicle" : 30 minuti;
In cases of intervention which do not fall under the public service category, as defined above, the intervention times to be respected by the two Organizations indicated by the Company are the following:
- for breakdown service to be carried out with a "small breakdown vehicle".
- 30 minutes for the time span between 06.00 hrs and 22.00 hrs;
- 60 minutes for the time span between 22.00 hrs and 06.00 hrs;
- for breakdown service to be carried out with a "large breakdown vehicle"
- 45 minuti for the time span between 06.00 hrs and 22.00 hrs;
- 70 minutes for the time span between 22.00 hrs and 06.00 hrs;
The Organizations must apply fees which have been established on a national level.
