Useful advice for motorway travellers

REQUEST TO THE MOTORWAY OPERATIVE CENTRE FOR INTERVENTION

In case of request of mechanical assistance, press the green button

The operator of the Operative Centre will answer on the loud speaker, to whom one must give the following data:

  • type of vehicle (car or lorry);
  • vehicle number-plate
  • type of problem;
  • positioning of vehicles.

If requesting medical services, press the Red button

The operator of the Operative Centre will answer on the loud speaker, to whom one must give the following data:

  • type of request (accident or illness)
  • seriousness and number of users involved (when possible).

BY MOBILE PHONE

Provide the operator at the Operative Centre with the following information:

  • locating kilometre (or motorway stretch), direction of transit or any other reference points (various signs, luminous road signs etc.);
  • the number of vehicles involved and the number of injured and the severity of the injuries;
  • if there has been a spillage of fuel or toxic substances
  • positioning of service vehicles (in carriageway or off the road)

IN CASE OF FOG (visibility =< to 100 m.)

  • before starting your journey, contact the Operative Centres of the Motorway Company to obtain information on the stretches involved, the relative visibility and therefore, the right driving manner to adopt;
  • before entering the motorway check changing message panels situated at the entrance to toll stations on which information on visibility and on relative stretches is shown;
  • during the journey remember that in case of fog, the maximum speed limit is 50 km per hour and one should maintain the safety distance from the vehicle in front. Always use indicators when changing lanes;
  • maintain concentration when driving, avoiding distractions of any nature;
  • in case of thick fog it is better not to start a journey unless absolutely necessary.

IN CASE OF OBJECTS THROWN FROM AN OVERPASS

  • note the number of the overpass subject to the act of vandalism, indicated on the panels installed before and after the overpass;
  • tell the Traffic Police the number of the overpass and any relevant data which may help identify the culprits.

BEFORE EXITING THE MOTORWAY

Keep to the right hand lane, reduce speed so that on entering the deceleration lane speed is of 40 km per hour. On entering the toll station select the correct lane according to the desired method of payment and specifically:

  • standard lane for payment in cash;
  • Telepass lane for subscribers to the service;
  • Viacard track - Fast - Pay for holders of Viacard, Credit cards and debit cards;
  • Self-Service to track the payment in cash and Viacard, Credit cards and debit cards.

ALSO REMEMBER:

  • when a phone call is made or a call received, if the vehicle is not equipped with loudspeaker, an earphone must be used or alternatively, one must stop in a lay-by area;
  • it is best to use the first lane on the right to favour a better flow of traffic, while the middle and the overtaking lane should only be used to overtake another vehicle.
